You can easily and effectivily block access to a website by adding it to your Windows HOSTS file. (Yes, Hosts is capitalised for some strange reason).

1.Go to your HOSTS file which is located at:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC for windows Vista and XP

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC for Windows 2k

C:\WINDOWS for Windows 98 and ME

2. Open HOSTS with Notepad.

The default Windows HOSTS looks like this:

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

Never ever put your Credit card info, or your social secretary info on your computer!! Because of hackers, you should never do that!! If you must purchase something on your P.C., then after doing so, reformat your computer, and erase everything from your P.C.!! Make sure that you get a back up USB system, to save all of your files, pics, programs/ETC, before you delete everything from your P.C.!! That is the most secure way to do it, because fire walls can be broken through!! Good Luck!!

It all depends on how your computer is set up.

Is is secure in that you KNOW rather than just THINK is is free of security problems like rootkits and other malware? There is a huge difference between NO problems and NO PERCEIVED problems. Real security relies on facts and abhors feelings.

Here are a entire list of options that you can choose from. You can only use one antivirus or you will have serious conflict with your system. You can use four or five antispware as long as you have the resources.

I use the purchased antivirus from Beijing, China for the past ten years. (Take your pick please).

Two obvious reasons (for windows):

-Some virus or through some faulty editor, you have accessed the SAM file or (reinstall or update)

- Some the security policy has been modified arbitrarily

- Update the system.

Security Alert?

Every time I try to get into my Yahoo iget the above on my screen. It say info you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by othes. However there is a problem with the site's security certificate. It then lists 3 options and the one that is highlighted is that the security certificate has expired. I have recently had my computer wiped of all viruses etc as the computer shop I took it too said that would get rid of the problem.

At the same time can anyone tell me how to get rid of the spam messages I keep receiving. They go into my spam folder but I am receiving at least 200 per week.

Get a system restore disc from your computer manufacturer by calling their 800 support number or going to their online website. I got one from HP for $15. You can re-load the computer yourself and you don't have to pay big bucks for a techie to do it.

After re-loading windows into the computer, add a virus protection software, like Norton Internet Security, etc. and change all your passwords and secret questions (ie like for ebay).Re-load your printer drive, MS office, internet software, etc. That should do it. You can block individual emails or mark them as spam. Keep a separate email account for spam to go to and one email account for friends and family. Use the spam email account (hotmail or yahoo) for things that might attract spam (websites).

After you have removed Norton from Add/Remove. go to Norton website and download their removal tool. It will get rid of all traces of Norton. Very simple and effective. Don't just rely on Add/Remove....My neice made THAT mistake!!!

I have Norton security installed it expires soon i have bt total broadband?ktm

Use the remove programs in control panel; search and remove "Norton' and "symantec" from windows explorer and the registry.
Contact Bt and ask them for another protection disk and they will send you another one Free!
Type msconfig in the run box and then find the remaining Norton files and uncheck them restart and then your good. The files won't be removed but they are taking up little space and your just turning them off so they have no effect on you at all. Unless you reactivate them.
*click on start.go into control program and then into add and remove programs and delete what you need to.
Also get a program like ccleaner which is free to clear left over registry entries from uninstalled programs. google for it.

you could also go into your hard drive in My Computer and then into program files and remove the symantic folder if it has been left over after install.
Download the Norton Removal tool, it deletes ALL traces.

Go to add and remove programs. If you have done that and there are pieces left.

Do disc cleanup.

Your computer is infected with a nasty trojan called Zlob. Zlob hijacks your homepage to one of many sites including asecurityservice.com and then generates warning messages to try and get you to buy fake programs such as VirusProtectPro (VIrus Protect Pro 3.5), Malware Burn, SpyCrush, SpyLocked, SpyHeal, System Doctor, Dr. Antispy, Security Toolbar and others. Of course it is important to remove asecurityservice.com, but it鈥檚 just as important to also remove the Zlob Trojan that implanted it there. In my experience, a program called SpyNoMore is your best bet for removing the Zlob trojan. By removing this trojan, you will also get rid of asecurityservice.com and all the nastiness that came with it. Another symptom of Zlob Trojan is that it generates fake warning messages like:

Zone Alarm Free for a firewall.

Do this Thingy (LOL)......User Account Control or UAC is a new feature in Vista that asks for permission to do system software tasks and also run programs. Unfortunately, this security feature is also annoying. I cannot predict the future of your system or what kind of security vulnerabilities will be used to attack systems, and as such, you need to decide for yourself if you desire to keep UAC active, but if you wish to disable it, here is how I do it:

You really need to find a wholesale place. Buy whatever you want and re-sell it. It isn't easy and it takes time to get steady income cash flow. You may also have frequent garage sales with your items since storage is always an issue. Everything is a hit or miss since products go in phases. Sometimes, books are hot, sometimes it is cell phones, sometimes it is jewls, it is a hit or miss. You need to be patient and work hard. If you hang in there it will work out. You may want to check out E-bay's info on selling and use it for your own business. They have great tips about pricing, and taking photos, etc. Good luck!
There is no best product to sell really, it just has to be something you believe in, as you said. The main problem is that the internet is saturated with millions of websites like what you want to do, so it will be difficult for you to make money, at least in the short term. Advertising will be key and getting your website out to all the available search engines is crucial. Hope you do well!!
Ebay has a wholesale section and it sells just about every thing, Have a troll through it and see what you would like to sell, then set up on Ebay.

Computer help please.?

For some reason none of my usernames are being remembered at any of the sites that I go to. Everytime I sign into my bank I have to answer a security question because it does not recognize my computer (even though I choose to have it remembered). What can I do? Thanks for your help.

Computer help please.?internet

If you are attempting to save your username / password in your browser (IT'S NOT A SMART IDEA) this is a security risk... since anyone sitting at your computer could log in and if you became infected with spyware it would send your informaiton to the attacker...

This feature is called autocomplete and can be found by going to TOOLS %26gt;%26gt; Internet Options %26gt;%26gt; Content tab %26gt;%26gt; AutoComplete

if the boxes are unchecked then it will not remember those things... you should always have it prompt you at least for your password...

Also, for banking websites you usually need to allow cookies to be installed / saved within your browser.. so if you went into Tools %26gt;%26gt; Internet Options %26gt;%26gt; Browsing History %26gt;%26gt; and delete temporary internet files...and deleted cookies... you would have to go back to the site and reinstall those cookies all over again.

If the cookies are not re-installing.. you may need to adjust the slider Tools %26gt;%26gt; Internet Options %26gt;%26gt; Privacy tab

I recommend setting the slider to medium-high which will allow banking to work.

Router security keys?kawasaki

Long way round would be to hack the WEP key. Quick way would be to force a reset on the router and reconfigure from scratch ;-) You will need a pen to press the reset button for 5 seconds to set it back to factory default settings. Then it is like new.

Warning: All settings, including ADSL/DSL usernames and passwords will be lost!! I accept no responsibility if this advice goes wrong! :-)

Update: Connect the router via a network cable to your computer and browse to the setup page (usually http://192.168.1.1 or something). Login and reconfigure your wireless settings. Once reconfigured unplug network cable and try connecting wirelessly. HTH.

My computer slows down after downloading 7 files of the Google Pack, are they virus or what?liveupdate

They are unlikely to be virus related but do a scan anyway to make sure. Most likely is that they are now taking up a lot of your system resourses.

A growing number of programs automatically add themselves to the Startup list so that they鈥檒l run as soon as Windows loads. You can disable any you don鈥檛 want by going to Start, Run and typing 鈥榤sconfig鈥?into the box without the quotes. Hit Enter on your keyboard, then click the Startup tab and untick any undesired entries.

A better solution is to install StartUpMonitor from http://www.mlin.net/StartupMonitor.shtml This alerts you whenever a program tries to register to run at Windows start-up and lets you approve or deny it.

I was able to install ver 7 of ie and it caused me huge problems. I spent about 6 hours on the phone with tech support to get it off and go back to ver 6, which is just fine. I would not go for ver 7 until the bugs are out, Report It

Forget about IE7. Download Firefox 2.0 at http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Users report a better surfing experience. One reason is that there are add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/) that allow you to customize the browser in ways that make browsing easier and fun. For sites that "prefer" IE, there's an add-on called "view in IE tabs" or "IE tabs".
Your licky, dont do it. Has to many problems.

Iheard it has glitches too. Go to Mozilla firefox down load that. Use that as your browzer. A lot better security wise.
Please post the error message.

Did you go through the "Windows Genuine Advantage"? It should clear before Microsoft lets' you have a go at IE7.

Trouble with my laptop/computer.?

Hi :D

I'm using:

Acer Aspire 3613WLCi

256MB DDR2

60GB HDD.

Windows XP Home SP2

Norton Internet Security 2008

The last time I used my computer, this problem surfaced.

When I "activated" a text field - as in whenever I clicked the text field to type, a whole string of Zs would appear, as if someone was typing them. I was still able to type, just that the Zs would appear as well.

These text fields included text boxes, search engines, URL fields, file names, forums, notepads... essentially everything.

Hence, I was unable to do anything because the Zs would appear mysteriously. I did not make any adjustments to settings etc.

Luckily, the second time I turned on my laptop after that incident, which is now, I can type perfectly well and my laptop is working perfectly fine.

I really hope you can perhaps enlighten on the causes and solutions to this problem.

Secondly,I would also like to find out if there are any ways to help speed up my computer and start-up time.

Thank you so much! :)

I recently installed Norton Internet Security. Could this be my problem about the computer slowing down? I have DSL but it still runs very slowly. What must I do to correct this? Thank you

My computer has slowed to a snails pace. How can I correct this problem?microsoft

No. It is not Norton. I say this assuming you do not have some completely old computer that has no RAM and no CPU speed. So obviously this would be a queue to check these things. If you are THAT low on resources you would really want to upgrade your system.

The questions to ask yourself are "what exactly is slow"

If it is your internet connection that could be your DSL provider or it could be the websites you are trying to reach.

You can drop to a command promtp and try a ping test or go to a speedtest website like speedguide.net

If you are slow opening programs then you might want to first check that you do not have a virus.. oftentimes when someone is infected and they try to finally install a reliable product the virus will do everything in its power to disable the scanner. You may want to go to the symantec website and do a web based scan. You may also want to force the product to update and perform a complete scan. Spyware and adware can also cause slowing so you may want to get SpyBot S%26D and run that. I would not add a bunch of programs though as it will cause more slowing and the wrong programs can really mess you up.

Will Yahoo's firewall staff send me an email attachment to deal with supposed virus infection o

got a mail from someone claiming to be the security firewall staff at yahoo saying my computer had been detected as infected and was emailing things to my address book without my knowing. Oddly, it appeared in both my junk and my email folders, which it seems it shouldn't have if it was really from Yahoo. Also, it had *gasp* an attachment they wanted me to download, rather than the link to pay for a virus scan program. Is this legit or what? I don't think I ran it through my antivirus program, so should I? I have already looked for info on such things, but I can't find anything on Yahoo! or elsewhere. Help?

Will Yahoo's firewall staff send me an email attachment to deal with supposed virus infection on my computer??network security

No, it's not legitimate; they wouldn't send you an attachment to run. The attachment itself is the virus.

Just delete it.

鈥lease do not cheat by skipping any steps. You are only hurting yourself if you do. And you will waste more time. The goal is to get your PC fixed. Completing the steps in this generic guide may or may not resolve all of your malware problems, but in all cases it gets your PC into a known state to help make it easier for me to fix your problems. After completing all steps, if you still need help, please send a new question. You may have a problem trying to run steps in safe mode on user accounts that have limited priviledges. This will only be on Windows 2K, XP, %26 2003 systems. Limited user accounts will not show when you boot into safe mode. You have two options, run the steps in normal boot mode which may not work to remove malware, or you can temporarily change the user account to an admin account and then complete the steps.

My Computer occasionally reboots itself when I turn it off. Anyone know why it is doing this, please

The computer is new, purchased in April, and it has only just started doing this but not every time I click 'turn off computer'. It's almost like I clicked on 'restart'. Security on there is first rate and there have been no viruses, trojans, or worms on it, no spyware or adware. It functions perfectly and mostly when I shut down it doesn't restart. Anyone know what may be causing this? It seems to happen when I have removed cookies prior to shutting down. Thank you.

My Computer occasionally reboots itself when I turn it off. Anyone know why it is doing this, please?nortin

Shutdown problems in Windows XP are most commonly caused by what is know in computer circles as legacy hardware - old technology components and peripherals that are not Plug and Play (PnP) devices - and software-compatibility issues.

If your computer was shutting down, but all of a sudden it won't shut down properly, or it restarts during the shutdown, if you installed any new software or drivers, remove the software via Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, or use the Roll Back Driver feature in the Device Manager (right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware tab, and find the device, double-click on its entry and open its Driver tab) to restore the old driver. If you discover that a driver is the cause of the problem, try downloading and installing the latest driver for the device from its manufacturer's site. If you installed any new hardware immediately before the problem occurred, obtain the latest driver file available for it in the same way. If the device still causes the problem with the latest driver installed, try a different make and model.

Internet Security!?

I am using Avira Anti-Virus Personal Edition (free edition) , Zone Alarm , Spybot -Search %26 Destroy, and Windows Defender. Avira im using to get rid of viruses, Zone alarm for a firewall, and spybot and windows defender for spyware. I am currently running on windows xp. If i use all these programs to protect my computer will it slow down my computer? are these programs good enough to protect my computer? and lastly, what are the best combinations of internet security that i should use?

Internet Security!?norton 360

That is a fairly good setup. Avira AntiVir is very good indeed and I use this myself, although I am currently using a 3 month trial of the Premium version.

Stick with Avira, it is very light on resources.

ZoneAlarm - I found this has become bloated recently, and the free version is not performing too good in recent firewall tests.

It scored "Very poor" in the Matousec leak test; http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows...

Good alternatives to ZoneAlarm, that offer better protection but use less resources are Comodo firewall or Online Armor free firewall -- both are free and very effective. I found Online Armor easier to use and it had less popups, etc.

I have tryed freeing up the space on my desktop, and now have only 6 items on my desktop, I have looked for viruses and it say's there is none, and tryed to do the "defragmenting" thing, and I just don't know what else to do, as I am not very computer savy at all!

You could have a hardware problem. Check your fan on your processor inside your computer to see if it has quit or become to dirty to cool well. If so blow it out with a can of air from a computer store.

Other than that check your power supply fan to make sure it is working. Feel on back of your computer where you plug your cord up to feel for air moving out or into your computer.

Make sure you have cleaned all your cookies and history and website urls and run a spyware program . Make sure your spyware program has been updated. Let it run a deep clean on your computer.

It can be a bad stick of memory also.

Where can I find a usb security token (aka: parental control device) that allows me to limit logon t

What I need is a password protected usb security token, with a built-in/programmable timer. Device would have to be inserted for computer to operate. However after specified logon time has been used up, computer locks up. Remove device and computer locks up. Re-insert device to resume. Token will be used for multiple computers. Will need to program varying logon times depending on day of week (e.g. 45 minutes per weekday; 2 hours Friday evening; 2 hours anytime on Saturday and Sunday). Either a plug-n-play device, or software that will allow me to program a standard usb flash drive to do the same thing. I've seen a lot of software programs that will limit computer time, but none that will allow me to program a standard usb flash drive into a "computer key" with a specified number of minutes that can be used. I really need the usb security token so that my children can "spend" their alloted computer time on any of the multiple household computers.

They actually had those things when I was a kid and crikey, did they work well. They were called a "kick in the backside". Seriously though, surely there's a better way. could you network the computers and just pull the plugs out of the HUB when time's up? You may even be able to get a program like the Internet cafe's use to control usage, either by switching off or recording usage with bonus points for those who stay within the limits. I always think that rewarding people for good deeds is better than depriving them. But that's my way of thinking after being kicked in the butt so often when I was young.

What is the BEST COMPUTER to buy?

Voodoo or Mac or Dell, Alienware, gateway, hp, emachines, amiga,,, WHAT ARE THE BIGGEST SELLERS

I heard voodoo is really good but expensive and mac pro is the newest apple computer plus it has mac and windows in one system. But Windows is way more popular and you could use almost any software while mac has more limited software but has better graphics. With windows you could go to any retail store and they would have software and games for windows while with mac you would have to go to a apple store or compusa.

What is better overall Mac or Windows.

What is the best for best quality. Dell, HP, Compac, Emachines, Gateway, or something else. I also dont want the really popular afforable ones that everyone likes to buy.

Is there a way to tell if a computer is running a telnet server (without accessing it directly) if y

In order for a system to be accessible via telnet, it would need to be running a telnet server. I am NOT trying to hack anyone; quite frankly even if the other computer was running a telnet server, firewalls and other security devices would more than likely prevent third party access to it. I am merely trying to find out if it would be possible to access the other computer in the event that it is running a telnet server and I subsequently tried to access it (NOT that I am going to do so). So does anyone know if there is a way I can tell if another computer is running a telnet server (without accessing the other computer directly) if I know the other computer's IP?

You can try a simple Batch file trick which works on most of the people and super hides the files thereby preventing deletion. Moreover complicate the folder name on your drive before hiding so it makes for self protection as the script first asks for the name of the folder to be hidden and then the password to hide it or unhide it.

Paste the following in a notepad and save as password.bat

Can your computer work ok with just windows firewall and a free security AVG? Do you need a stronger firewall then windows firewall? my friends computer is slow and she just has those on her computer along with adware se personal is her computer safe enough to use on the internet with just that security and spyware protection?

Can your computer run ok with just windows firewall?product key

To be sure that your computer is OK you need :

1. Firewall

2. Antivirus software

3. A program for eliminating spyware

You can get all that from a single program or different ones.

I use Zone alarm suite because it has them all and my computer works fine.

Can your computer run ok with just windows firewall?triumph

Run startup.exe at:

http://www.mlin.net/startupcpl.shtml.......

Can't live without it and windows...

Then disable and/or uninstall whatever u don't need.

Joe...
yes it is possible with out the windows fire well how means dont use it
The only disadvantage of the Windows Firewall is that it doesn't block any outgoing traffic, unlike the free Zonealarm firewall. If you have a trojan installed on your computer, it will still be able to access the Internet because it's outgoing traffic in the eyes of Windows Firewall. However it surely gives you good protection against web attacks.

Did my husband download something to my laptop to spy on my computer activity?

Last night my husband downloaded ESET Smart Security and NOD32 v2.x FiX 1 .1 by TemDono (Free Updates - Expire in 2050). At least that's what it says in my listed of installed programs. OK, so I turned computer on for the first time today after he downloaded this security program %26 for the first time EVER my computer asked me is I wanted to "restrict" or "allow" others on my network to view my shared files etc. What is that about? I don't have anything to hide, but my husband would have a fit if I was snooping around his laptop so I expect him not to snoop around mine...remotely or otherwise. Can anybody tell my why this message would come up? I don't remember what program it was apart of. If there is something I can do to find out what this message was please let me know. Thanks

ESET Smart Security is a firewall program, it protects your computer from attacks from the network (I believe this is what asked you to "restrict" or "allow" others to view your shared files)

NOD32 is an antivirus program that protects you from viruses, trojans, and worms.

So no, from what you described your husband did not install spy software, he installed software to protect your computer.

Check under control panel, then system and click the remote tab and make sure the options are not ticked. i think its very usefull. i use google desktop on my comp n i find it really easy to launch files n even programs.. now i rarely go to my computer n browse thro da files cos all i hav to do is press ctrl twice n type da first few letters of da file or prog that i want n select from the list... its really that simple not to mention the various gadgets that can be used with da sidebar.. (u can put jokes. news, weather n various other useful stuff)..

As for the privacy concerns, i kno that it is a risk but you can choose wat files to be included for indexin so basically u get to choose wat files u want to b able to search for.... but then there is allways da chance of google usin that private data to help them provie 'better' search results...

I suggest the avg antivirus and the spyware doctor as well as the advanced windows care,

This is very good tool and I recommend it to keep your pc in good running condition,

Windows Advanced Care , This tool will keep your computer running good and you can see the startup programs to help you understand what runs in the startup programs; It also includes a registry cleaner and spyware removal,, It also imunizes your computer against the attcks we face each time we go on the internet Just run it once a day and your worrys are much less,

Here is a very good tool called Winpatrol and it monitors your computer for programs that try to run on your system without your knowlege, This tool also allows you to manage all the startup programs on your computer,, It also warns you if a program tries to run without your permission, I use this software and I recommend it,

Computer waking up when telephone picked up?

Got a very strange question from one of my relatives today (I seem to get someone's broken computer every other day!!), and this one really stumped me.

If her computer is in "Sleep" mode and she picks up the phone her computer wakes up and she is shown the login prompt as though she had deliberately roused her computer.

Im not really sure if this is potentially a security issue or a hardware issue around her modem. Any ideas?

The computer connects to the net via a dial up modem

There is a power option choice called something like "Wakeup on Serial Port Activity. When you check that it causes that to occur. Go to Start, Control Panel, Power Options and uncheck that box to make the problem go away.

Hello,

You seem to have Modem's IRQ set as wake-up in APMS (advanced power management system).

Right Click on my computer-%26gt;Click properties. Then Goto Hardware--%26gt;Device Manager. In the next window choose select menu item View-%26gt;resources by type and expand the Interrupt Request section...

Now locate your modem name/model on the right pane and note down corresponding number.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh Nooooooooooooo My Computer keeps on freezing!!!!! Wot can I do??

For the past month my computer continues to freeze, I am also recieving error reports and messages from windows telling me that my computer has been through a Critical time.

Over the last two months I have installed Firefox which I had to get rid of because my computer was never the same since I installed it, at the moment I have installed CA security, Zone alarm, and even though they say my computer had critical things on them that they had cleared up, my computer still freezes up.

Can anyone advise me on how to solve this problem??????

Thanks!!

Ohhhhhhhhhhh Nooooooooooooo My Computer keeps on freezing!!!!! Wot can I do??suzuki

try using your recovery discs so you can wipe the offending files, you might also add more ram if you are running a high percentage of programs.

My advice...Restore your computer!

Here is what you do:

Go to your start menu/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore- Follow the instructions on the screen and go back to a date BEFORE you started having problems. This should correct the issue.

Quick, easy, and-in most cases- works like magic!
Go to Programs Then choose accessoreis, then system tools, then system restore. then choose to restore your pc to earlier dat than you instaled Firefox.
for this cause you will have to restore your computer
This advice is on the assumption you do not have viruses.

If i have my video ipod and get a new computer do i have to delete all my songs to put new songs on?

do i have to reset my ipod for my new computer to put new songs on my ipod, or is there a way i can bypass the security and continue putting songs from my new computer while having my songs from my old computer?

If i have my video ipod and get a new computer do i have to delete all my songs to put new songs on?symantic

No! Just install the ipod software! You can then save your songs from the ipod to the new computer if you want!

If you are keeping the old computer there's no need to delete as you are licensed by Apple to copy those files on up to 7 computers. If you are selling the computer then I would wipe the disks first.
not at all, u can put in new songs or do watever u want to with the ipod.

I had "free" Norton Anti-Virus with my tax program that I bought last year, and I uninstalled that also. How do I configure my computer to become a wireless router?

How do I configure my computer to become a wireless router?abtuvurys 2005

your router is what connects your wireless card to ur phoneline. you need one. your pc can not be one of these
Not sure you understand the basics of networking...

If you really want to turn a PC into a wireless router, you'll need to use something like FreeSCO. Don't expect to be able to use it anymore though.
sorry man, thats not possible.
What the question should be is "How can I use my computer as a wireless access point?"

To answer it:

This can be done.

What you will need are a Wired Network Card in the machine that will connect directly to your modem. And a wireless network card that will act as the access point.

At that point there are several options. Such as internet connection sharing right in windows, and 3rd party software beinging free/open source/and otherwise.

Hope that helps point you in the right direction.

How do computer virures affect wireless networks?

what is the mechanism in which computer virures affect wireless networks and hamper it's security?

How do computer virures affect wireless networks?virus protection

If your computer or any other computer on the network is infected with a virus / worm, it may try to spread itself over the network, overloading the network and eventually brings down the wireless access point, halting the entire wireless network. It very much works the same way as it does on a wired network.

How do computer virures affect wireless networks?agv

Computer viruses affects wireless network by either disabling them or by taking control of them in order to do undesirable things.

The security can be hampered in a way that the user name or password of many people may fall into wrong hands. or if network is under control of someone through a virus, it can create havoc with the files that may be shared via that network.
they do as they do for the wired networks.

the mechanism for wireless is they spread through WAP(Wireless application protocol), through all the programs alike wired networks.
Virus traffic can significantly affect the wireless network. It is critical that your machine be clean of any existing worms and/or viruses and patched for future ones. Please be sure to have Anti-Virus software installed including the most up-to-date definitions (DAT files). If you do not have Anti-Virus software you may download McAfee free from OIT by visiting the OIT Virus Help Page. During the installation be sure to 'Update Now' and 'Run On-Demand Scan'. To read about current virus threats and to sign up for the Virus Alerts Notification program visit the OIT Virus Alert Page. To make sure your machine is patched visit Microsoft Windows Update and install all available updates.

Is really funny, someone asking this question. I know, and it sucks, guess what? Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 Beta does not work with any MacAfee products. I also had the same exact problem, when I tried to open my FireWall summary, a window will come up, but the window was just blank with nothing on it.

I never read the "Currently posted bugs (issues)" and in that letter, Microsoft says that there are issues with MacAfee products while using IE 7 Beta, so you have to wait until the next release or uninstall and install IE 6.

It was very bad because I loved IE 7 Beta, but I had to uninstall it because I chose to keep my computer safe.

If i'm part of a network can people see my computer files, or what i'm doing online?

If i'm part of a network can people see my computer files, or what i'm doing online?virus scan

I am assuming you are using Windows? If you stick a computer with Windows on it to any network with others Windows computers those other people will have to know an administrator password or password to an equivalent account to get into your computer remotely. I am a network administrator and I routinely look into machines for various reasons, its also called rooting the machine, or gaining root level access to the C: drive. If you have no Administrator password set then people can easily get in provided they are somewhat computer savvy. I suggest you set passwords for all accounts, especially the Administrator account if the computer is on a large network with other people that you do not know. If you are on a small home network or small LAN you have setup in a room then there really is no way for people to get in because they have no physical connection to your computer. If you are required to join the computer to a Windows Domain or someone has already done this to your computer, then the Administrator of that network has full access to your computer regardless of what passwords you set. If you have passwords set to get into your computer for all accounts and its your own computer and its not a member of a larger domain then your probably pretty safe. Make sure Windows Firewall is turned on and that will shut off all the ports that a hacker might try to use to gain access. If this is a small network hooked to a router and a high speed internet provider such as a cable modem or DSL, you are fairly safe because the router has a firewall, and also windows has a firewall too.

Wireless security password settings for the Wii?

I right now have my router set to WPA/TKIP, which offers good security and allows the Wii to connect to the internet/network/online. However, I want the best security so I switched it WPA2/AES. Unfortunately, I could not connect online with the Wii console, when using the WPA2/AES or WPA2/TKIP password security settings. On the other hand, my laptop was able to connect my network with WPA2/AES security. But the Wii can't. I have tried googling for answers but only found a bunch of forum posts, which provided tips that did not work.

Any suggestions/tips to get my Wii console to connect to my wireless network with WPA2/AES security?

Don't be afraid to get geeky and use computer jargon. I consider myself an intermediate-advanced user. If you are really good at using search engines, please post sources to.

Wireless security password settings for the Wii?virus

I don't know that you'll get overly complicated responses on here. :-)

Nintendo's website claims that the Wii is compatible with WPA2/AES security, so in theory, it should work. I'm assuming from your question that it worked fine with the same router in the same place using WPA, but once you switched to WPA2, it no longer works.

I would suggest contacting Nintendo on the issue. I'm guessing they've dealt with the issue and probably have some explanations.

If you use Norton (Symantec) You need to get rid of that also. It isn't nothing but a resource hog and causes problems that takes for ever to try and troubleshoot. Also, Norton has a removal tool in order for anyone to remove it from their system (I say this is bad practice for ANYONE - the removal should have been included).
