You can easily and effectivily block access to a website by adding it to your Windows HOSTS file. (Yes, Hosts is capitalised for some strange reason).

1.Go to your HOSTS file which is located at:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC for windows Vista and XP

C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC for Windows 2k

C:\WINDOWS for Windows 98 and ME

2. Open HOSTS with Notepad.

The default Windows HOSTS looks like this:

______________________

# Copyright 漏 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.

#

# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.

#

# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each

# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should

# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.

# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one

# space.

# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual

Never ever put your Credit card info, or your social secretary info on your computer!! Because of hackers, you should never do that!! If you must purchase something on your P.C., then after doing so, reformat your computer, and erase everything from your P.C.!! Make sure that you get a back up USB system, to save all of your files, pics, programs/ETC, before you delete everything from your P.C.!! That is the most secure way to do it, because fire walls can be broken through!! Good Luck!!

It all depends on how your computer is set up.

Is is secure in that you KNOW rather than just THINK is is free of security problems like rootkits and other malware? There is a huge difference between NO problems and NO PERCEIVED problems. Real security relies on facts and abhors feelings.

Ca anti virus ( About 39.99 )

Spybot search and destroy , run it once a week ( Free )
Here are a entire list of options that you can choose from. You can only use one antivirus or you will have serious conflict with your system. You can use four or five antispware as long as you have the resources.

I use the purchased antivirus from Beijing, China for the past ten years. (Take your pick please).

Another free excellent program from Avira Germany free for home personal use.

Two obvious reasons (for windows):

-Some virus or through some faulty editor, you have accessed the SAM file or (reinstall or update)

- Some the security policy has been modified arbitrarily

- Update the system.

Check your computers time, date settings and region. If these are wrong it can throw you security messages saying invalid etc.

Click right mouse button on the time in the task bar and click adjust time and date to see of your pc's settings are correct.

Security Alert?

Every time I try to get into my Yahoo iget the above on my screen. It say info you exchange with this site cannot be viewed or changed by othes. However there is a problem with the site's security certificate. It then lists 3 options and the one that is highlighted is that the security certificate has expired. I have recently had my computer wiped of all viruses etc as the computer shop I took it too said that would get rid of the problem.

At the same time can anyone tell me how to get rid of the spam messages I keep receiving. They go into my spam folder but I am receiving at least 200 per week.

Get a system restore disc from your computer manufacturer by calling their 800 support number or going to their online website. I got one from HP for $15. You can re-load the computer yourself and you don't have to pay big bucks for a techie to do it.

After re-loading windows into the computer, add a virus protection software, like Norton Internet Security, etc. and change all your passwords and secret questions (ie like for ebay).Re-load your printer drive, MS office, internet software, etc. That should do it. You can block individual emails or mark them as spam. Keep a separate email account for spam to go to and one email account for friends and family. Use the spam email account (hotmail or yahoo) for things that might attract spam (websites).

I have Norton security installed it expires soon i have bt total broadband?

After you have removed Norton from Add/Remove. go to Norton website and download their removal tool. It will get rid of all traces of Norton. Very simple and effective. Don't just rely on Add/Remove....My neice made THAT mistake!!!

I have Norton security installed it expires soon i have bt total broadband?ktm

Use the remove programs in control panel; search and remove "Norton' and "symantec" from windows explorer and the registry.
Contact Bt and ask them for another protection disk and they will send you another one Free!
Type msconfig in the run box and then find the remaining Norton files and uncheck them restart and then your good. The files won't be removed but they are taking up little space and your just turning them off so they have no effect on you at all. Unless you reactivate them.
*click on start.go into control program and then into add and remove programs and delete what you need to.
Also get a program like ccleaner which is free to clear left over registry entries from uninstalled programs. google for it.

you could also go into your hard drive in My Computer and then into program files and remove the symantic folder if it has been left over after install.
Download the Norton Removal tool, it deletes ALL traces.

Go to add and remove programs. If you have done that and there are pieces left.

Do disc cleanup.

Your computer is infected with a nasty trojan called Zlob. Zlob hijacks your homepage to one of many sites including asecurityservice.com and then generates warning messages to try and get you to buy fake programs such as VirusProtectPro (VIrus Protect Pro 3.5), Malware Burn, SpyCrush, SpyLocked, SpyHeal, System Doctor, Dr. Antispy, Security Toolbar and others. Of course it is important to remove asecurityservice.com, but it鈥檚 just as important to also remove the Zlob Trojan that implanted it there. In my experience, a program called SpyNoMore is your best bet for removing the Zlob trojan. By removing this trojan, you will also get rid of asecurityservice.com and all the nastiness that came with it. Another symptom of Zlob Trojan is that it generates fake warning messages like:

System Alert

Critical System Error

System Performance monitor warning

Security Alert: NetWorm-i.Virus@fp

Security Warning: SpyBot@MXt trojan
